Naldehra

Our ExperienceAfter reaching Shimla by Shivalik Deluxe Express toy train, we hired a taxi for Nadehra. Our stay was at Royal Himalyan Club resort. Since we had visited Shimla many times, this time we decided to stay at Naldehra and visit Shimla for a day. Naldehra is only approximately 25 kms from Shimla. It takes about 40-45 minutes to reach Naldehra from Shimla. Being November, it was quiet cold.

We went to Naldehra with my extended family. All kids started jumping as they reached the resort- Royal Himalyan Club. Resort had almost all the facilities except swimming pool and a big garden. But since, it had a beautiful view, we liked it.

After lunch, our expedition started. There is a famous Golf Course which is worth visiting to see the beauty of Golf Course. We hired a taxi which charged about Rs.300/- till the taxi stand near Golf Course. From taxi stand, we had to ride horses which was again a great fun. Horses took us through the hill full of bushes and trees. Kids enjoyed horse riding.

At the start, there is a temple called- Mahunag Temple. This temple is dedicated to Snake God. This is where from which Naldehra has got its name. Nag( Big or Maha snake in Hindi language)+ Dehra which means abode. This translates into ‘ Abode of King of Snakes. After paying homage in the temple, we headed for the Golf Course whcih is the Legacy of Lord Curzon to India. It is an 18 hole Golf course and the oldest in India. Visitors have to pay if they want to play Golf there. We simply enjoyed the beauty and returned.

Valley view from our resort was magnetic so we decided to stay there only rather than exploring more at Naldehra. Reosrt had many recreational activities for kids and elders as well.

There were more things to do but we did not do. 2 kms down a shabby road from Naldehra, there is Kogi Village. This village hosts Kogi Mata Temple and a chowka( seat for elders) sculpted in wood.

Near Baldian village, there is United Service Club. It was originally the summer resort for Italian Countess of Craignano.  After Craignano, there is a Talli, a tiny meadow hosting ‘Mahakali(Hindu Goddess)Temple’ . This is coupled by an estate of Maharaja of Faridkot where bull fight festival ( joton ka mela) is held every June.

There is a small town called Mashobra where you can get eating options and also find Strawberry jams and Mushroom pickles.

Chabba on Sutlej river has a starting point for river rafting till Tattapani.

Trekking can be done at Shaily Peak from Khatnol which is the base of peak.

Next day, we headed for Shimla to enjoy the scenic beauty.
