Beautiful clouds

Chidiya Tapu is the southernmost tip of South Andaman. The lush green forest cover with Munda Pahar beach makes it a perfect destination in Port Blair.

Chidiya Tapu is famous for its Munda Pahar Beach, Biological Park, Sylvan Sand beach, Chidiya Tapu beach, sunset point, variety of exotic birds like drongos, emerald dove, white bellied, sea eagles, grey fronted and imperial green pigeons. (Source – maps of India.com)

Main occupation of residents of this place is craftsmen ship of sea shells. There are many creative items that are made from sea shells like stands, ash trays, displays etc.

Chidiya Tapu is reachable by road from Port Blair and is approximately an hours drive. Its a detour to Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

Our Experience

As we had heard about the sunset at Chidiya Tapu, we headed for it after having sumptuous lunch. The route was so vivid and rejuvinating. Upon reaching there, we felt the fresh air. Area was lush green. We could smell the fragrance of forest. It was a little walk but being October, weather was nice and we could easily stroll around.
As we entered the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park, there was a nice and meaningful message written- ‘Do not tease animals’. It was a nice way to convey message to all ages via pictures.

As we walked further, we got to see something strange, Water Monitor. This is a lizard that dwellves in areas close to water. This lizard is commonly found in Asian countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka.

This lizard can take the size of 3 mts with weight of 75 kgs.It is carnivorous. We were able to see it from far height. There were big walls from which we looked down to see these big lizards. But after learning that they can even eat tortoise and snakes, I felt scared. But, we were safe due to big walls of protection provided for viewing. It was interesting to see these lizards.

There were deers as well. I felt a sense of fulfillment after seeing Water Monitors and deers.

There is a forest guest house on the hillock which provides a beautiful panaromic view of the village.

After water Monitors, we went to the beach near Chidiya Tapu.

It was a rejoicing view. Although we could see broken trunks and fallen trees due to the effect of Tsunami disaster. By just standing there, it was apparent what nature can do in its fury.

There were benches on the beach to sit and relax. It was a nice calm sea.

It was getting cloudy and appeared as if clouds were dancing in the sky with various poses.

Sometimes the clouds would form shape as if they are just coming on our face bang on. I felt scared.

We went there tonsee sunset but clouds did not allow us to experience the golden sky. However, it was a blissful trip. We all had a sense of achievement that we were able to see God’s creations.

Chidiya Tapu is a must visit sightseeing spot. I would not only recommend but also urge the travellers to visit this nature’s stunning creation.
