The ceremonial lighting was led by His Excellency Mr. Kimmo Lähdevirta, Ambassador of Finland to India, accompanied by the First Lady, who together also unveiled the Advent Calendar with Ms. Meena Bhatia, Vice President and General Manager, Le Meridien.

His Excellency Mr.Kimmo Lähdevirta, Ambassador of Finland to India was delighted at the event and said that it marks the beginning of the festive season with a simple yet powerful message — hope, togetherness, and the joy that brightens even the coldest months.
In Finland, Christmas is a rich blend of traditions. It brings together kekri – the ancient pagan traditions of midwinter, the old Germanic yule customs, the Christian story of the birth of Jesus, and the family-centered gift-giving practices that took root in the 19th century.
It was a pleasure to hear how they believe that Christmas is a moment to remember loved ones near and far — and to honor those who have passed away, by lighting candles that turn our cemeteries into seas of gentle, glowing light. And as we believe that small birds carry the souls of the deceased to the next dimension, we put a sheaf of straw and other foods outside for them.
As Santa Claus starts his journey across the world from Rovaniemi around the same time, he often finds time to visit children in Finland in person during that evening to deliver the gifts!
He said that Electronic waste is a growing global challenge, and addressing it requires imagination and responsibility. By turning the Christmas tree into a platform for awareness, the hotel beautifully shows how celebrations can also encourage care for our environment. It is a joyful reminder that festive spirit and thoughtful action can go hand in hand.
