Jageshwar Temple

Jageshwar Temple

Jageshwar temple is one of the most famous temples in India. It is in Kumaon district near Almora. It took us about 3 hours to reach from Parvada Bungalows in Parvada village near Mukteshwar to reach Jageshwar Temple. Weather was amazing so it didn’t feel such a travel time. Upon reaching there, we freshened up. Toilets there were world class! They were so well maintained. Its really worth a mention.

Outside the Jageshwar Temple Complex, there were many small vendors selling flowers, garlands, prasad and other small items like key chains, bangles, chunnis and other stuff for Pooja, copper utensils, shirts of OM and so much more. If one has time, one can easily spend some one-two hours in the market.  People also buy flowers and garlands to take them to the temple for the worshipping ceremony. Many others like me buy prasad for family and friends back home.

Inside the complex, there are a cluster of about 200 temples in the vicinity.

Inside Jageshwar Temple Complex, big and small temples

It is said that one of the Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva fell on this place. Temples are made of cut stones. There are small and big temples in the complex mostly dedicated to Lord Shiva and others to Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Durga, Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi Ka Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mrityunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga Temple, Nava Grah Temple, Surya Temple and more. Not all temples are for worship as many of them are broken.

We entered the main temple of Lord Shiva which is the Jyotirlinga. There was a ceremony going on and I felt at utter peace from the core of my heart. There was a feeling of contentment. I stood there for I about half an hour and kept watching the ceremony. I then did Aarti also in the temple.

Never thought at such a popular place , I will get to spend so much time.

Nau Durga Temple (Nanda Devi or Nav Durga Mandir)

By God’s grace, it was raining then and crowd was very less, so no one objected to our staying there for minimum half an hour. Normally at such places, we are not even allowed to stand even for a minute so as to accommodate thousands of people in a short time. This was all magical!! After taking  a round of the complex, we came out. We then headed back to our retreat- Parvada Bungalows!

This whole trip was organized by them and it was a seamless execution. We were accompanied by Caron D’ Souza , the Manager of Parvada Bungalows and Chandrani Chakraborty, Head PR and Marketing, OM Tourism. They ensured we were comfortable in the whole trip.

Our driver was really nice and courteous. On the way back, we bought some prasad and Bal Mithai which is famous in this region. It was delicious. It was a wonderful trip altogether.
