About Kushak Mahal

Kushak Mahal is housed in Teen Murti Bhawan. Meaning of Kushak is ‘King’. Kushak Mahal was probably used to be a hunting lodge or Shikar ghar of King Firoz Shah Tughluk during A.D – 1351 -88. This structure is made by rubble and sand. Having three arched openings with three compartments, this structure stands on a 5 meter high terrace. It is said to be inline with an embankment used to store rain water which no longer exists.

As one enters the gate of Teen Murti Bhawan, walking towards right would lead to sturdy square structure of Kushak Mahal. It is just opposite to Nehru Planetarium.

Our Experience

We were excited to see the square structure beyond stairs. Since it was all open, cool breeze was blowing around. There was greenery all over. It was a nicely built thoughtful architecture. It made me think how in such old days with lack of modern tools, sturdy and designer buildings were created innovatively. We got some nice views from terrace.
