We went on a day’s picnic to Pratapgarh Farms near Jhajjar when our family friend told us. The drive was nice and scenic as well as the place. It was not difficult to reach as we had people and signboards guiding us. You will have to go via Badli to reach Jhajjar.

We went there in February which was a comfortable weather because the farms are open and one can enjoy under the sky. Best time to visit is between October and March. Rest of the year will be hot in summers and there can be swamps during rainy season which can make the drive and visit both uncomfortable. Last stretch of road is muddy and difficult to drive.

Pratapgarh Farms is a private farmhouse with lot of fun games for kids and young people, sports and day long activities.

The day package (vegetarian) at Pratapgarh Farms is approximately Rs. 780.00  per person and Rs.425.00 for child between 5 and 10 years. Timings – 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. We reached by 10 am and were greeted by welcome drink and delicious breakfast including paranthas , makkhan and poori bhaji with pickle. Kids enjoyed hot jalebis and kadai milk.

We then started our joyride with ethenic games like pithoo , Archery, Dart and Air gun shooting.

Tried our hand at Gulee Danda. This was followed by Camel, Bullock Cart and Tractor ride. Kids were very happy to enjoy these rides in the greenery.

Soon, it was noon, playing badminton and volleyball. Then we started our adventurous crossing of Burma Bridge. It was thrilling but risky as I held my 3 year kid in hand.  He behaved so maturely. There was a small pond under the bridge where ducks were enjoying the water and sun. It was a refreshing walk.
Delicious lunch was waiting for us. It was a buffet and we had food to our heart’s content. All dishes, sweet dishes and makkhan were made from vegetables grown there and dairy farm there itself.
It was now turn for indoor games like carrom , chess, badminton and table tennis. We walked down and participated in Rural kitchen activities with rural women and men dressed in colourful traditional attires to have a glimpse of rural life in India. Kids were keenly observing thread production with Charkha, manual flour grinder and white butter churner. We also took kids to the little zoo that authorities had maintained.

We were tired but neembu paani (lemon juice) and pakoras were refreshing. We then moved towards outdoors where kids enjoyed trampoline and kite flying.
We played some cricket shots and sang songs in the evening. Full day was enjoyable. Kids wanted to stay for some more time but my husband insisted that we move out.

After having hot tea and pakoras , we decided to leave as it was close to 6 PM. It was a good decision because as we reached highway , it was getting dark.

It was a good day spent where kids enjoyed a lot and had a glimpse of rural India. Although there was more to do like tube well bath, mud bath, natural beauty care activities, valley crossing but we could do only as much. The trip was worth the money spent.

One should reach early morning & preferably go in a group with friends in comfortable weather conditions to enjoy this place to the fullest.

I would recommend Pratapgarh Farms to all for one day’s visit.
