After a lifetime experience of a houseboat stay at Alleppey , we headed for Kovalam in Kerala.

Kovalam town lies in South of Kerela , in Thiruvananthapuram city approx 16 kms from the town.Ours was two nights stay. It took us about 3 hours to reach Kovalam from Alleppey. As we reached our hotel, Sagar Samudra, we realized that the beach was far away from hotel. We had to walk down through very narrow lanes to reach the beach. The accommodation provided too was not having a beach view. So, we changed our hotel.  We reached our new hotel, Kovalam Beach retreat by lunch.

Hotel Kovalam Beach Retreat is only two minutes walking from the beach. After having lunch, we relaxed for some time. Kovalam beach retreat was at Samudra beach. Samudra beach is relatively less populated as compared to other beaches.

We were staying a little away from the main beach (Lighthouse beach – known for its 35 metres high lighthouse ). So, we enjoyed walking along the coastline via Hawah beach to reach the main Lighthouse beach for a lavish dinner by the seaside. There were many shops on the way selling different stuff like artificial jewellery, clothes, food etc. Lighthouse beach is where most of the foreigners stay. It offers variety of multicuisine food.

Next day early morning, we went for a walk on the beach. My son was getting scared as cool winds were blowing by the sea.

There was a queue of fisherman at the bay pulling a massive fishing net from the sea , singing local songs. It was interesting to see! Fishermen took more than an hour to fish out the net from the sea. It was a vast net spread far in the sea. We stayed there for long to see the outcome of fishermen’s hard work. But then, went back as we realized that they will take more time to pull the net.

Roof top restaurant of our hotel had a nice view of Samudra beach. So, having meals there was always refreshing.

Then, in the night again we went to the beach to enjoy the beauty. We stayed there for a while to have some refreshments. Then, we headed to our hotel.

It was overall a pleasant stay at Kovalam and we moved on to our last destination in Kerela for last two days – Kumarakom.
