I have always been fascinated by forts and palaces. Whenever I visit Amer Fort or for that matter forts in down South, they transport me to the era of those royal times and life. I had recently visited Amer Fort and my excitement rolled further upon hearing about Heritage 365 which promotes Heritage Tourism.

Mr. Nitin Srivastava of Gujarat Tourism elaborated about heritage walks in Ahmedabad and that Ahmedabad is termed as a heritage city as well. He said thete are temples built in 1882, with intricate wooden carvings and are marvellous. Why not invest and get something out of it. There are houses built in 16th century. Mohan jodaro and Harappa Civilizations have lots of impressions. He mentioned when one visits those places, experience would be equally good. He said they are looking to improve experience of visitors, improve signages, restoration of Heritage Monuments.

Mr. Sanjay Pande of Rajasthan Tourism mentioned thast there is a formulation of Heritage policy. Owners of houses built before 1950 are being provided support. 18000+ such properties have been listed. Sewage, connectivity, beautification, landscaping ate being taken care of. Mr. Sanjay said, more than 25 lakh visitors visit Amer Fort. They also have heritage monument policy in place to ensure monuments preservation.

Regarding craft, millions of crafts people are in India. India is one of the few countries of d world having separate ministry for textile. Crafts people are passive and the efforts are in for preservation. Many craft people are not supposed to hold samples. So they don’t know how great their forefathers have been. Hand made things are more contemporary and beautiful. Lets make them part of daily lives, buildings, hotels, emporiums.

Elizabetta from Italian Embassy said that Italy is world’s number one city in having Heritage sites. Lot of work is undergoing to restore Heritage buildings. She said there is a black layer on mostly all heritage monuments which is a result of old reatments. Modern techniques are being applied to monuments to restore.
