Lion as seen from Lion Safari

Chhatbir Zoo is in Chandigarh near Zirakpur district of India. I had heard a lot about Chhatbir Zoo , so was curious to visit. We were going to Barog and saw the signboard of Chhatbir Zoo. It was totally unplanned. We simply took this opportunity to show Chhatbir Zoo to kids.

Chhatbir Zoo houses many mammals, reptiles and birds. At the entrance was a pond where ducks were having a gala time. There was a lot of noise.

First of all we wanted to experience Lion Safari on which I have written a separate post since it was an amazing experience. Awe moved further, we came to know Lion Safari was at a good km distance.

Since Lion Safari was a kilometer away, we got to see Tiger, Zebra, Elephants, Hyena, White bucks, white peacock and many more on the way. Kids were delighted to see these animals.

Zebra

Zebra showed us its face afer a long wait. But it was worth it. It was busy drinking water.

White bucks, deers, white peacock were so beautiful. Kids loved them.

Leopard at Chhatbir Zoo

As we saw Leopards, they were hanging around. Some were swinging, some were on trees, few were sleeping, relaxing. It was a good number of 8-9 leopards in that big cage.

Jaguar

Jaguar as we saw was totally restless and growling. I too was scared at the sight of it and told my kids to stay alert and away. You can even see it angry in the picture on right.

Hyena

Seeing Hyena reminded me of the movie- Life of Pie. It was snoozing when we visited her cage.

Elephants were living in harmony and enjoying life it seemed.

Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus was one big challenge to see. It was bathing and would not come out at all. So, we tried our best to capture it from height. Good that our camera was able to find and click it.

Then it was our turn for Lion Safari. After Lion Safari, we checked on reptile area. Lots of poisonous and scary snakes, pythons, cobras were kept.

Moreover, the zoo was neat and clean. There is also a restaurant inside where can buy or eat quick snacks. One must fish out 3 hours minimum for the visit.
