The Royal Plaza

The Royal Plaza, a 4* property in Gangtok is highly specialized in hospitality. Amongst many hotels/resorts in Gangtok, The Royal Plaza has a strong name. It is one of the top properties in Gangtok. The Royal Plaza belongs to Sarovar group of hotels.

Way to the restaurant

As we entered the hussle bussle of town, The Royal Plaza is at a prominent location in town. But inside, its an altogether a different world with rooms, lobby, restaurant, everything overlooking the beautiful valley.

Seeing mesmerizing views of valley, I was very happy to be staying in The Royal Plaza.

When we visited, some renovation was happening. Beautiful stairs welcomed us with a grand lobby. Lobby was divided into various parts- Reception area, travel desk, guest relations,  seating, a little counter for food and a lounge overlooking the valley.

Beyond the lobby are two restaurants – Orchids and The Red Roof. Both the restaurants had a distinctive ambiance of their own. Orchids is a multi cuisine restaurant.

Orchids had a magnificent space with areas dedicated to buffets, seating. It can easily accommodate people somewhere between 150-200.

Tables that had valley view were magnetic. We always used to dine at tables with valley view.

The Red Roof being the Chinese restaurant, all ambiance was in red. It had lovely paintings on walls. Its a fine dining restaurant.

Our room was executive suite. It was a perfect blend of modernity and comfort. Drawing dining had sofas, LCD TV.

Bathroom was well equipped with bath tub, shower, full length mirror, my favourite toiletries, Bath robe and more.A luxurious well appointed bathroom was at the entrance as well.

Our room too had LCD TV, coffee maker, mini bar. All over was wooden flooring. had valley view from both drawing dining and room. It was very spacious. Kids and we loved our suite.

Our experience at The Royal Plaza Gangtok

We were welcomed with the honour of respect by Gangtok tradition with a ’tilak’ on forehead and a traditional welcome by a silken or satin cloth around the neck. Soon we were offered tea and coffee as welcome drink owing to cold weather in Gangtok.

After warm welcome by staff and General Manager , we retired to our cosy and comfortable room with a grand valley view.

Valley view from room was hypnotizing. Soon kids made themselves busy with Chess which they had ordered from housekeeping.

Next morning sunrise view from our room was very nice.

Next day we had to go to Nathula Pass. The trip was impeccably seamless and comfortable as arranged by The Royal Plaza. They had taken care of all things including nitty gritty details that were useful during our travel to high altitudes with low oxygen levels.

We were even told about the time maximum by which we should be back owing to unpredictable weather conditions in Nathula and Tsango Lake.

We ordered few snacks which were delicious. That day we had gone to Orchids for the first time. With beautiful ambiance and unparalleled service and enticing dishes, everyone had lunch. Every time we retreated to hotel after a days excursions, we had our meals at ‘Orchids’ which was delicious, non spicy , non oily and very hygienic. Mr. Satyam Sinha, the Head Chef ensured to keep food to the international levels considering the foreign and domestic travellers. We tried Sikkim’s traditional food as well. It was healthy.

Other food items that we used to have in our meals including dosa, upma, paneer lababdar, chicken curry, makhani chicken, bhindi or mixed vegetable, pasta , noodles, were all lusciously yummilicious. We used to always enjoy our meals and the experience at Orchids. Chef Satyam even presented Zara- roots of boiled squash served with chutney, Piku da Payu soup – (corn and carrot with egg yolk) which I relished. Gyatuk-a Tibetan cuisine very popular in Gangtok also known as Tunkpa.

In Room dining too was fast and good.

Hotel houses a Casino Sikkim as well which is open 24 hours.

Overall, a great stay, unparalleled hospitality, impeccable service and excellent ambiance.

The Royal Plaza is MICE enabled with high speed internet access everywhere in premises. There is a theatre style and a meeting room style conference rooms.
